DC pumps can have eithor a brush motor or brushless motor. Brush motor is simpler and cheaper, but is less robust and has a shorter service life due to the abrasion of the brush and the less reliable sealing to stop water from getting inside.

Brushless motor gets rid of the problematic brush, which makes it possible to have a perfect sealing to stop water from getting inside. With no brush to get abrased and the perfect sealing, the pump is more robust and durable.
